OBJECT OF THE GAME

The object of the game is to be the first player to collect nine community tokens (three yellow, three blue, and three red). To obtain a community token, a player must land on one of the three coloured  community squares and respond to a Speech Card correctly. These coloured community tokens represent the original 1905-06 Treaty No. 9 signing communities (yellow), the original 1929-30 Treaty No. 9 signing communities (blue), and the other NAN communities (red) respectively, and represent treaty money ($4.00) given out to each member of that community.

GAME RULES

  1. Each player rolls the two dice. The player with the highest roll goes first. The player to left of the highest roller goes next.
  2. The players roll the dice in turn and move the same number of spaces shown on the dice clockwise from the start section on the board.
  3. When the player lands on a community square, the player on the left chooses a card from the Speech Card deck and reads the card to him/her.
  4. If the player rolling the dice responds correctly, then he/she collects a community token (treaty money) corresponding to the colour on the community square. The Speech Card is returned face down to the bottom of the deck (or placed in the storage box). The player rolling the dice can roll one more time on his/her turn (to a maximum of two) providing he/she responded correctly on the first turn.
  5. If the player lands on the start square and responds correctly, then he/she collects a coloured community token of their choice.
  6. If the player rolling the dice responds incorrectly, then play passes on to the player on the left.
  7. If the player rolling the dice lands on a Travel Card square, then he/she picks up a Travel Card, reads it out loud, and follows the instructions printed on it. The Travel Card is returned face down to the bottom of the deck. When the player lands on a community square, the player on the left chooses a card from the Speech Card deck and reads the card to him/her. Then play continues as in rule 4.
  8. Any number of game pieces may occupy the same community square at the same time.
  9. The player who collects all three blue, three yellow, and three red community tokens wins.
  10. Other variations of this game include the following: (a) the player with the most community tokens at the end of a predetermined time wins, or (b) the player who collects a predetermined number of community tokens (e.g., two blue, two yellow, and two red) wins. In the case of a tie, the players with the same number of community tokens respond to Speech Cards correctly in turn until only one player is left.
